Butterflies is a local Dorset charity, which has been in existence since 1975. We are registered with the Charity Commission number 269838.
The charity was previously known as “Earlybirds” and was formed by parents of disabled children in Weymouth, who needed additional help that was not being provided.
Our remit is to help children (up to the age of 18) who are disabled and who live in the DT postcodes. Whilst local authorities will provide certain equipment, many of the disability aids, which can significantly help the family, are not covered by current funding guidelines. This is where we step in to help.
We can provide an iPad to help a child communicate, a Crelling harness to keep a child secure, sensory equipment and weighted products to calm children, amongst others. We will provide to all qualifying families, without means testing, upon the agreement of a health professional that the product is suitable, safe and appropriate for the child.
The children we help have a wide range of disabilities both developmental and physical. 99% of all donations go directly to purchase equipment for a family in need.
Following receipt of an application form, we will assess if and how we can help and allocate funds appropriately.
